The Foreign Office have recently sent

us a copy of a memorandum which they have

received entitled "Anti-British Feeling in

China" by Mr. John V. Braga, late of Hong Kong

The memorandun is somewhat long but its

two points are

(a) that anti-British feeling among the

Chinese of Hong Kong and South China is

widespread although not generally

apparent or recognized by Europeans and

(b) that it is chiefly due to the

incivility of British people in Hong

Kong.

In support of this thesis Mr. Braga

quotes a number of examples two of which are
